چکیده

The use of mini-implants have made a major contribution to orthodontic treatment. Demand has aroused scientific curiosity about implant placement procedures and techniques. However, the reasons for instability have not yet been made totally clear. The aim of this article is to establish a relationship between implant placement technique and mini-implant success rates by means of examining the following hypotheses: 1) Sites of poor alveolar bone and little space between roots lead to inadequate implant placement; 2) Different sites require mini-implants of different sizes! Implant size should respect alveolar bone diameter; 3) Properly determining mini-implant placement site provides ease for implant placement and contributes to stability; 4) The more precise the lancing procedures, the better the implant placement technique; 5) Self-drilling does not mean higher pressures; 6) Knowing where implant placement should end decreases the risk of complications and mini-implant loss.

Prosthetic rehabilitation of a patient with mandibular resection prosthesis using mini dental implants (MDIs)--case report.

Physical disfigurement and functional impairments associated with facial trauma are a challenge to a prosthodontist, because even novel sophisticated surgical reconstructive techniques fail to provide adequate support for dental resection prosthesis. Therefore, different endosseous implants are often used as prosthesis-supporting elements. Manufacturers of dental implants have recently presente...

Radiographic Evaluation of Marginal Bone Loss Following Immediate and Delayed Implantation

Background and Aim: Intraosseous implants can be placed using three different techniques: immediate, early, and delayed. The aim of this study was to compare the changes in the marginal bone level around implants after immediate and delayed im-plant placement. Materials and Methods: In the present prospective cohort study, 26 implants were placed in 26 patients divided into two groups. In grou...

Assessment of Neurosensory Changes and their Correlation with the Distance between Dental Implants and the Inferior Alveolar Nerve after Implantation

Background and aim: Neurosensory disorders after implant insertion are one of the main concerns in implant treatments. Neurosensory disorders can be driven by different factors including the contact of the implant with the nerve, pressure of edema, hematoma, scar, or dental injections. This study aimed at investigating the distance between the implant and the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) and i...

Immediate versus delayed loading of strategic mini dental implants for the stabilization of partial removable dental prostheses: a patient cluster randomized, parallel-group 3-year trial

BACKGROUND Acceptable short-term survival rates (>90 %) of mini-implants (diameter < 3.0 mm) are only documented for mandibular overdentures. Sound data for mini-implants as strategic abutments for a better retention of partial removable dental prosthesis (PRDP) are not available. METHODS/DESIGN The purpose of this study is to test the hypothesis that immediately loaded mini-implants show mor...

Immediate loading with mini dental implants in the fully edentulous mandible.

The use of immediate loaded prostheses is not recommended for at least 2 weeks to prevent implants from premature loading. In addition, immediate removable prostheses are negated for at least 4 weeks at the site of guided bone regeneration or bone graft. However, patients are often not pleased with limited diets and the unaesthetic appearance during the healing period without a denture between ...
